The theme will be ‘Aquaculture for Human Wellbeing-
The Asian Perspective ‘ and it will be the first major international aquaculture conference in Korea. The 4 day conference will be from 20-24 May and the trade show will be held from 20 to 22 May, 2008. There will be several concurrent sessions. In shrimp, these are on diseases, farm design & management, genetics, broodstock and hatchery. In nutrition, there will be papers on management fish protein/oil replacement and finfish & shrimp feeding and nutrition and live Feeds. Sessions on culture of species will cover that of the monodon shrimp, carp, freshwater prawns, salmonids, sturgeon, crayfish, crabs, eels, freshwater prawns, catfish, cobia, grouper, tilapia, tuna and flatfish. Industry sessions will be on bio floc technology, aquaculture economics & marketing, marine & polyculture & integrated aquaculture, freshwater ornamentals, multi-trophic & offshore aquaculture and recirculating systems.

Special producer programs are being planned. These will give the latest in practical knowledge for the Korean and other aquaculture producers. The Korean aquaculture session is on the last day.

Uniquely on Penaeus monodon culture

At the show, Uni President Vietnam, Gold sponsor of World Aquaculture 2008 will organise a half-day session on the culture of Penaeus monodon on May 22nd in the afternoon from 13.50 till 17.40. Currently, the production of this shrimp is overtaken by that of the vannamei shrimp in most parts of Asia. However, there are interests in industry in many countries to revive and expand black tiger shrimp farming to meet the demand for larger size shrimp. The aim of the organizers is to present some positive developments in its breeding and grow out as well as present challenges in nutrition, disease and marketing, to prepare the way forward. This session will be chaired by Professor Shi-Yen Shiau, National Taiwan Ocean University, Taiwan and Dr Jang, In Kwon, Director of National Fisheries Research & Development Institute, Korea.

- Developments, domestication and breeding of a Nutrition requirements of Penaeus monodon- Professor Shi-Yen Shiau

- specific pathogen-free broodstock of shrimp Penaeus monodon from Madagascar, Dr Marc Le Groumellec, Director of Aqualma, Madagascar.

- Important diseases of the giant tiger shrimp P. monodon in Asia-Prof Timothy W. Flegel, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University.

- Review on the semi intensive grow out and pond management of Penaeus monodon- Herve Lucien-Brun, General manager, Aqua Techna

- The status, challenge and perspective of black tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon farming in Mekong delta –Vietnam, Nguyen Van Hao, Director, Research Institute For Aquaculture No. 2, Vietnam

- Global production and trade of farmed shrimp, Jacques Gabaudan, Manager of DSM Nutriotnal Products. With two more months to go, some 82 companies have already confirmed their participation at the trade show. However, the organisers said that they expect more exhibitors in the coming months as it is still early.
